Evelyn R. Tammaro, (nee Young), age 77, of Amherst, died Thursday February 25th at Kingston of Vermilion following an extended illness. She was born in Lorain on December 10, 1932 and was a 1951 graduate of Lorain High School. Mrs. Tammaro made Amherst her home for most of her adult life. After residing in Crossville, Tennessee for a number of years, she returned to Amherst in 2006.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Practical Nursing and received her state nursing certification in 1969. She was formerly employed as a nurse in the Pediatric Department at Lorain St. Joseph Hospital. She later worked as a driver for Lakeland Enterprises in Lorain from 1984 to 1992.

She and her late husband were parishioners of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and were active members of the Christ Renews His Parish Ministry, as well as the Marriage Encounter Team there. They were also members of the church choir.

She had previously volunteered as both a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader with the Erie Shores Council of the Girl Scouts of America; Evelyn also served as a member of the band boosters at Amherst Marion L. Steele High School.

While residing in Tennessee, Mrs. Tammaro was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was active with local hospice bereavement groups along with the One Step Beyond program, and the Nurses of America Organization.

Known as a life-long seamstress, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and tole painting.

She is survived by her son Louis (Marcelle) residing in Crossville, TN, by her daughters Deborah Harris (Jerry) of Louisville, KY, Cynthia Tammaro (Greg Sindad) of St. Augustine, FL, Kathleen MacLean (Thomas) of Independence, and Angela Cecil (Craig) of Amherst. She is also survived by grandchildren. Regan King, Regina Holbrook, Thomas MacLean, Anne MacLean, Sean MacLean. Jessica Thompson, Louie Tammaro, Tony Tammaro, Matthew Cecil, Chad Cecil, and Christy Cecil, by great grandchildren McKenzie King, Regan King, Trent Holbrook, and Logan Holbrook, along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Louis, in 2001, by an infant son Michael, by her parents Louis and Reinette (nee Capen) Young, by a sister Eleanor Creter, and by her brother Arthur Young.
