Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Helen Evansco, (nee Coteff), age 95, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at the Ames Family Hospice, with her loving family at her side, on the morning of Friday July 15, 2022.  Helen was born in Lorain on April 20, 1927 and was a life-long resident of the city; she was a 1945-B graduate of Lorain High School.

Helen was employed as a seamstress for the Lorain Garment Company where her four-year career with the firm found her expertly finishing intricate coats, jackets and a variety of other clothing for highly satisfied customers.

She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church where she was a member and former president of the Ladies Guild as well as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. In addition, she served as a volunteer at the parish school and was a familiar face for more than seventeen years in the church kitchen assisting with catering needs during weddings and countless other church functions.

Fully understanding the importance of family, she, along with her husband, took great pride in caring for the needs of her aging parents. A loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, Helen was always quick with a laugh, hug, and a kiss; she liked working with ceramics and seeing the pieces she crafted on display in the homes of her grandchildren

She was well known for her beautiful penmanship and sent out countless greeting and special occasion cards to friends and relatives throughout her lifetime. Possessing a green thumb, she enjoyed sharing home-grown bouquets of flowers with friends and neighbors alike.

Up until the time of her passing, Helen continued to enjoy the friendship of her neighbors during their weekly Wednesday meetings of the Breakfast Club Girls.

An avid fan of both the Cleveland Browns and  Indians, she could still recite the entire team roster of the 1948 Cleveland Indians.

Helen is survived by daughters Elaine Ostang (Larry) of Lorain, and Jacquelyn Pasadyn of Oberlin, and son John Michael Evansco (Barbara) of Sheffield Lake, In addition, she leaves  grandchildren Nicholas Ostang (Diane), Stephanie Church (Chris), Brittney Ditzler (Reid), Matthew Pasadyn (Sara), Ryan Wyszynski (Andrew) and Michael Evansco. Other survivors include great grandchildren Samantha Ostang, Rebecca Ostang, Paige Ditzler, Teagan Ditzler, Lucy Pasadyn, Leo Pasadyn, Elizabeth Church, Ava Church, Evelyn Wyszynski, Lincoln Wyszynski, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Evansco in 2013, parents Svetco and Velma (nee Stoianoff) Coteff, son-in-law Mark Pasadyn, and brothers Robert, Boris “Bud”, and George Coteff.

Helen’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers of the Hospice of the Western Reserve for the compassionate and unwavering level of care that they provided to Helen during her stay with them.
