Robert J. “Bob” Potts, 85, of Lorain, died Tuesday February 13, 2018 at University Hospital in Cleveland after a brief illness while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 8, 1933 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain.

Bob graduated from Lorain High School Class of 1951A.  He served with the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Leyte CV32 in the Mediterranean Sea.

Bob worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake in Research & Development from 1955-1965 then at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as a Quality Control Supervisor from 1965-1981. In 1981, he opened SuperPrinter in Lorain providing printing services and retired in 1996 after 16 years.  Bob was a certified income tax preparer for H&R Block.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the former St. Vitus Catholic Church in Lorain.  He was a past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #1301 in Lorain, a life member of the Croatian Club, life member of AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain and a member of the American Legion #30 of Lorain.

Bob was an active learner who immersed himself in various activities throughout his life, including archery, scuba diving, shooting, skiing, tennis, bowling, fishing, photography, model building, running, metal detecting and amateur astronomy. He was passionate about airplanes and flying and had a love of sports cars. Bob also worked in real estate and tax preparation. He was a voracious reader and there were few crossword puzzles that he couldn't solve.  Bob attended the USS Leyte reunion every year and he was a plank holder for the US Navy memorial in Washington DC.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Katherine “Kathy” Potts (nee Greulich); sons: Mike Potts (Karen) of Lorain, Tom Potts (Samantha) of Islamorada, Florida and Chris Potts (Laura) of Amherst; grandchildren: Jessica Potts of Lakewood, ENS Joshua Potts at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, Andrew Potts of Charleston, South Carolina, Hunter Potts of Hampstead, North Carolina, Olivia Potts and Violet Potts, both of Amherst and his dog Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents Gregory “Harry” Potts and Anna Potts (nee Brletic).

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Friday February 16th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.   Funeral services will be held Saturday February 17th at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel.  The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
